How to get your home robot-ready

Humanoid robots are due in UK homes from 2027. Most of the work that makes one useful and safe happens before it arrives. Here's the full checklist.

Solid WiFi in every room the robot will use

Home robots rely on WiFi for software updates, app control and, on some models, remote help from the maker. Walk round with your phone and run a speed test in each room the robot will work in. A mesh WiFi system fixes most dead spots. Include the garage or garden if you want it working there.

A docking spot

Find about a square metre of clear floor near a socket, off the main walkway, where the robot can get in and out easily. Avoid blocking doors, radiators and cupboards. Robots with wireless charging pads, like Figure 03, need a flat spot of floor.

Camera-free zones, decided now

Choose the rooms the robot shouldn't enter or record in, usually bedrooms and bathrooms, before its first mapping run. Our home robot privacy guide explains the options.

Clear stairs, cables and floors

  • Keep stairs clear, with no trailing cables or extension leads.
  • Secure or remove loose rugs, which are a trip risk for a walking robot.
  • Move anything fragile or precious that's within the robot's reach.

Pet and child boundaries

Agree the house rules before day one: which rooms the robot can use, whether it can work while children are alone with it, and how you'll introduce it to pets. Keep pet bowls and litter trays out of its usual paths.

Doors and thresholds

Note any heavy or self-closing doors, raised thresholds and steps between rooms. These are the places a robot is most likely to struggle, and they're worth checking before you decide where it will work.

Insurance

A humanoid robot costs as much as a car. Check with your insurer that your home contents cover includes it, and whether accidental damage it causes is covered. Keep the warranty paperwork somewhere safe.

Your household routine

Decide when the robot works (for example, while you're out), where it waits when it's idle, and who controls it in the app. A simple routine makes the first few weeks much smoother.

Want it done for you? We're planning a £49 home readiness survey: a video walk-through of your home covering all of the above, with a robot-ready report showing what to fix before your robot arrives. Join the list to hear when it launches.

Would you pay £49 for a video survey that checks your home is ready for a robot, with a written report?

One tap and anonymous: we only record the answer, not who you are.
